Meet Dr. Varaprasad J Director, SERG, CU

The primary goal of Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) is to support high quality research projects associated with sustainable environmental science and technology and to contribute to improving environmental practice.

The scope of SERG, CU includes issues of environmental science, technology, management and related fields, especially in response to sustainable water, energy and other natural resources.


Dr Varaprasad Janamala

VARAPRASAD JANAMALA. received the Ph.D degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India in the Year 2017. He has received his M.Tech degree in Power System Engineering in the Year 2009 from RVR & JC College of Engineering, affiliated to ANU, Guntur and B.Tech degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in the Year 2004 from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.

Since 2013, he has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at School of Engineering and Technology, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore–560074, Karnataka, India. He is the author of more than journal 25 articles and 15 conference papers. His areas of interest include and deregulation, power systems operation and control with FACTS devices, electric power distribution systems with Volt/VAr controls and power system optimization with heuristic algorithms.

Smart Grid

Smart Grid is an Electrical Grid with Automation, Communication and IT systems that can monitor power flows from points of generation to points of consumption (even down to appliances level) and control the power flow or curtail the load to match generation in real time or near real time.

Renewable Generation

Renewable distributed generation refers to a variety of renewable technologies (like solar, wind, fuel cell, hydro etc.) that generate electricity at or near where it will be used, such as solar panels and combined heat and power.

Electric Vehicles

All-electric vehicles, also referred to as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), have an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine.


Automation is the use of technology to perform tasks with where human input is minimized.

This includes enterprise applications such as business process automation (BPA), IT automation, network automation, automating integration between systems, industrial automation such as robotics, and consumer applications such as home automation and more.
